Philippines Post Typhoon Haiyan - Update Northern Cebu as of January 5, 2014

POST HAIYAN UPDATE:

I received this update from a friend in Cebu. She is a devotee to Our Lady of Remedies in Odlot, Northern Cebu:

"Signs of destruction and devastation brought upon by Yolanda are still clearly visible. Some parts of Bantayan (Northern Cebu) are still without electricity. Some houses and schools are still roofless. We saw some UN tents along the way. I heard from my cousin that relief goods are still being distributed.

"As we meandered along the highway, uprooted trees still dotted parts of the countryside. Gone, however, are the people begging by the roadside.

"The church in Odlot is slowly getting covered by roofing materials donated by the original donor, DN Steel. The faithful still came in droves. As I offered my prayers and thanks to Our Lady, I noticed that she had a rather sad face. This was unlike the glowing mien I observed several months back. She must be still in grief for the typhoon victims."

Rudy Alix, a businessman and community organizer, said, "Rehab assistance to the devastated areas is on the decline, and this worries me. The government so far hasn't provided much assistance."

I tried to find updates on Korina Sanchez, who got into that big quarrel with Anderson Cooper and CNN. It seems she's shined on the matter and resumed her media work.

There was a flurry between DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez - read on -- Roxas vs. Romuladez: Word War turns into battle of videos. Apparently Roxas told Romualdez, "You have to understand. You are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino..." plus some other words, over which there is a debate as to what exactly was said.  In any case, I wonder why it's necessary to keep bringing up the Romualdez-Aquino feud over and over.

Meantime, President Aquino is now thinking about the 2016 presidential elections in the Philippines, specifically who his successor will be - read on "Aquino for Binay for president in 2016?"

The next photo shows Louella in front of a Red Cross tent.

The last two photos show how the church and house in Odlot, Northern Cebu looked after Haiyan struck.
