Travel France: Paris, Luxembourg Garden, Conciergerie, Cluny Museum

We visited the Luxembourg Garden in Paris, which was started in 1612 by Marie de'Medici. The Luxemburg Garden is owned by the French Senate; the garden is open to the public. The sun was up and people sat around in chairs and benches to enjoy the lovely weather.

The Garden has the original model of the Statue of Liberty, and nearby is an oak tree planted to commemorate 9/11  The Statue of Liberty, designed by Bartholdi and commemorated in 1886, was a gift to the American people by the French.

We also visited the Conciergerie, which was part of the Royal Palace in the Ile de la Cite. At some point in time, it became a prison, and in fact, Marie Antoinette was imprisoned there before being beheaded at the Place de Concorde.

We also visited the Cluny Museum, which has the Lady and the Unicorn Tapestries. Made if Flanders of wool and silk from 15century Paris drawings, the six tapestries have a fairy-tale quality.  They are in my Favorite List. You must click on each one to see the wonderful details.
