Coming Up: Paris, Berlin, Heidelberg, Wilhemsfeld #Travel

I'll be visiting Paris, Berlin, Heidelberg, and Wilhemsfeld, and I hope to blog about those places. If I have difficulty uploading to this blog, I'll post in my FaceBook site:

In Paris, on Thursday night, October 9, I plan to be at the Open Mic reading at Culture Rapide, 103 Rue Julien Lacroix, 75020, around 8 p.m.



I'm posting some of the activities of Jose Rizal, the Philippine National Hero, when he was in Paris in 1883. I'm hoping to "follow some of his footsteps."

17 June 1883
Rizal arrived at Paris. He spent the whole day walking around and observing the beautiful city.

18 June 1883
With Felipe Zamora and Cunanan, he visited the Leannec Hospital to observe how Dr, Nicaise treated his patients. He was impressed with how advanced that hospital was.  

19 June 1883
Dr. Nicaise showed Rizal some operation techniques.  Later Rizal visited the Dupytren Museum, a museum of anatomical items illustrating diseases and malformations. It is still in Paris, and is located at 15, rue de l'Ecole de Medecine, Les Cordelliers, Paris; open weekdays. The closest metro stateions are Cluny - La Sorboone and Odeon.

20 June 1883
Rizal visited the Lariboisiere Hospital where Felix Pardo de Tavera was an extern. Here he observe the examination of the different diseases of women.

21 June 1883
After observing Dr. Duply, he went to the Jardin d’ Acclimatation situated outside the Paris, in the Forest of Bologna, where he found plants of all species and the rarest and most beautiful birds.

5 July 1883
In a letter to his parents, sisters and brother, Rizal continued describing the museum, buildings and hospitals he had visited in Paris.

2 August 1883
In a letter to his parents, he continued describing his visits to museum and his excursions to important places in Paris.

While in Paris, Rizal also stayed at 65 Boulevard Arago in the 13th arrondissement, with Filipino painter, Juan Luna. He also stayed in various hotels, including the Hotel de Paris, 37 rue de Maubeuge, 9th arrondissement, and the building that is now Hotel Aramis at 124 rude de Rennes, 6th arrondissement.
