The Grand Central Market of Los Angeles, California






We visited the Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles which has been in continuous operation since 1917. It's been revamped in recent years and has become more gentrified. The high-energy place now attracts a huge crowd of people, some of them tourists, some office workers from the surrounding areas, and many other types of folk who were there for lunch or to shop for produce, meat, cheeses, and other food items.




Produce was a deal: three avocados for a dollar, a basket of strawberries or a bag of cherries for a dollar; two small containers of blueberries for a dollar. There was a stall selling high end meats however that was breathtakingly expensive -- beef for thirty-five dollars a pound!

Breakfast or lunch ran from around $6 and up.

The Grand Central Market is part of the fabric of Los Angeles and a must-see for visitors. To the locals who haven't been there recently, it's time to see the changes in the market.

Located at 317 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, the Grand Central Market has parking in the building for $2 for 90 minutes.
