After Nottaway, our next stop of our Mississippi River Cruise was Pointe Coupee, Louisiana, which was surrounded by major rivers on three sides. It's a resort but pleasantly not crowded. We were told that when they have their Mardigras carnival, the place is packed.
Because the delta is rich, pecan trees and other plants grow abundantly. Oak trees are enormous (see picture of me with my arms outstretched in front of an oak tree). In other parts of our tour we would see cotton and sugar cane.
In Point Coupee, we visited a charming historic house with lovely gardens. I especially loved the verandah and the vegetable garden.
American Queen provided hop-on-hop-off buses that brought us to Pointe Coupee. Otherwise, the cruise passengers could not access the town. There are levees along the Mississippi, which separates the ship from towns; in addition, where the ship docked were not necessarily near the places we visited.
