The Island of Maui, Hawaii has a population of around 150,000, which swells to around 200,000 when tourist are around. Even though July is not considered high season, there are quite a number of tourists around. The airplane I took from Honolulu to Maui had many Europeans and Australians.
There are other places that are just as physically beautiful as Maui is --- Fiji and the Philippines for instance, but the difference is that Maui is part of the United States. It is clean and safe, and the standard of living is high. It is also not overpopulated as it is in the Philippines.
We are kicking back and also taking in the sights in Maui. Today we drove up to the Iao Valley State Park where King Kamehameha defeated the leader of Maui.
We also drove south to the lava beds.If you look carefully at the picture of the black lava bed, you can see wild black goats.
